This is what I told myself one day.
There just seemed to be too much going on. My mental time and energy was being wasted on a constant stream of unruly thoughts. It was *not* a good flow. My mind was chaotic, unproductive, and it was frustrating me. I felt like I was continually stumbling on incomplete thoughts left over from the day before.
I figured I might be going through a period, but the feeling just kept coming back. I asked my friends if they had experienced anything similar. Most everyone responded back with a resounding “Yes!”

So What's Going On?
Listen, I'm not a sociologist, psychotherapist, or anything like that, so I'm not going to try attempt breaking it all down, but things are convoluted in this modern world. We currently face a constant barrage of information. We're bombarded with notifications, streams, requests, and thoughts constantly draining our energy.
It doesn't matter if you're on social media or not.
It doesn't matter if you work alone or with people.
It doesn't matter if you're "smart" or "savvy".
What matters is that you believe that you can improve your thinking, your thoughts, and your entire mindset. There really is a greater world available. You just have to access it. This may sound like bumper sticker wisdom, but it's true. you have more potential than you "think".
You know the problems of existing in this hyper-media world, and you've undoubtedly experienced some of the common symptoms:
- forgetfulness.
- foggy-mindedness.
- irritability.
- reduced cognition.
- shortened attention spans.
- lack of foresight.
- general confusion.
- etc.
Battling these and easing your mind is what we explore in JotBooking.
The Illusion of Choice
While I’ve searched for solutions that can work for people, I didn’t see any that were presented in ways that provided REAL help. Everything felt like a temporary fix to make people feel better.
Most "solutions" that people offer come in one of two forms:
(A) Disconnect from technology completely and become a digital hermit.
(B) Stay plugged in 24 hours a day and try to handle the machine as best as you can.
While there is some merit to both of these strategies, neither one asks us to improve ourselves from the inside out and deal with modern information on our terms.
So What's The Answer?
There is no simple answer, magic bullet, secret technique, or weird trick that will change how the world works for you.
But I can tell you that you can most definitely engage with life better by changing the way that you interact with your thoughts.
The basic premise of JotBooking is simple:
"Jot your thoughts down so they're not clogging your mind."
That might not seem very special to you, and it isn't. These techniques are open and available to anyone willing to try.

I'm a former video game programmer, designer, and fine artist. I've made a hobby and a lifestyle of collecting and sorting through thoughts and information all my life. In the past, I've worked for companies such as Rockstar Games, The 3DO Company, Sony Santa Monica, and WowWee. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from Florida A & M University and a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Michigan State University.

Question: How Do You Know JotBooking Is Best For Me?
I don't know what's best for you.
And no other person or book knows what's "best for you" either.
Only you can know what's best for you. But I do know this: Most people I interact with have a lot going on in their heads. That's just a factor of modern life. Even if it feels normal, you're probably thinking about more than you should be.
Over the past several years, I've been able to ease my mind and think more effectively. By consciously and intentionally practicing how I manage my ideas, negative sensations, positive feelings, information, and most every other thought that passes through my mind, I've even inspired myself to write a book about it. Now I feel much better about working with my thoughts.
This practice of putting down your thoughts has taken me farther than I thought possible. Learning about the contexts of thought has been quite a productive journey. It was enough for me to want to introduce you to the concept.
So no...
I do not have all the answers. No one does.
But I do have a unique story and method of getting thinking through things that you may be interested in.
Question: Isn't Writing Stuff Down Just Common Sense?
You are correct! JotBooking IS based on simple and straightforward principles. But that just makes it *more* important for you. In a similar way, exercising for health is "common sense", but there's a lot we could learn and understand about it. With JotBooking, I didn't think I needed to write a book on the matter until I really started working on myself and my thoughts. Working to refine and record my personal journey through the practice.
Question: What Have You Personally Learned?
Since I've been regularly JotBooking, I sleep better, have fewer headaches, am less stressed, and get a lot more done. Sounded like one of those silly miracle cure as I typed it out, but it does make sense! But it's my truth. Before starting on the book, I worked on making sure my thoughts weren't a constant burden to me. I wanted my thoughts to be intriguing and novel aspects of my life.
The fundamental idea isn't rocket science or advanced psychology, but a sensible application of what most of us take for granted because of all the noise we live with.
Of course, this is a personal account, and your results will vary, but at the very least, you will get to see how I think about some of these topics.
Question: Is This A Book About Journaling?
Good question! Journaling is great and I encourage it. But journaling is a fundamentally different thing. At best, you can say that this mini-journaling, but that's only one aspect. Personally, I do both, and I may even write a whole book about journaling one day.
Question: Are You Even A Writer?
Yes. I've been writing in different capacities since elementary school. But JotBooking is my debut "book book". It's the real deal non-fiction slab of work you've been waiting for. I've been researching, studying, and practicing it for several years. In fact, the book came about after a long period of me...wait for it...jotting down my ideas.
The processes you'll find in the book were used to help develop the various techniques, which adjusted my mindset, and finally allowed me to create the book. So yes, it was a totally meta experience.
